How did the prison get the name Wormwood Scrubs? It sounds cleaner than US prisons, yet scarier somehow.
Evocative name for a prison, isn't it? But I think it's just the name of the land where the jail was built - Scrubs for scrubland, and Wormwood probably referring to a place where there were lots of snakes ("wyrms").
