A few years ago my wife and I attended a conference at the Parker House, perhaps the most distinguished hotel in Boston (Parker House rolls and Boston cream pie were invented there.) Outside of one of the conference rooms was a mirror in an ornate frame. A sign explained that when Dickens visited Boston on his US tours he would practice reciting the Carol in front of this mirror...
